Dr. Mazzarella will see emergency cases by arrangement at the following facilities:
Even if another surgeon is "on-call," Dr. Mazzarella can arrange to meet you at the facility and take over your care. Because Dr. Mazzarella offers services not provided by other local surgeons, he is willing to provide this service whenever he is available. Call the on-call telephone (530) 458-3243 x1027.
Telemedicine consults (via Skype or other videoconferencing technology) are also available. Dr. Mazzarella has Telemedicine capabilities from both his home and office and can connect to many ER's and clinics that have Telemedicine capabilities. The following types of problems are often seen through the Emergency Room:
Acute appendicitis, treated with laparosocopic appendectomy (camera/minimal incisions)
Acute cholecystitis (inflamed gallbladder), treated with laparosocopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal using camera/minimal incisions)
Hernias, incarcerated (trapped) and painful. Often treated laparoscopically (camera/minimal incisions) and/or with plastic mesh repair.
Bowel obstruction (blockage) from scar tissue (adhesions) from previous operations, or from other causes. Often treated laparoscopically (camera/minimal incisions).
Abscesses and severe infections, often needing incision and drainage
Traumatic injuries requiring operative repair
Gastrointestinal bleeding requiring endoscopic (camera) examination of the stomach
Abdominal pains of uncertain cause requiring laparoscopic (camera) examination of the abdomen
Gangrene, early or late
